Extended Campuses Center

LEED GOLD® Certified

Flagstaff, Arizona  |  Northern Arizona University

This LEED Gold project renovates the existing three-story Communications Building and incorporates a 23,000 square foot addition to the to consolidate Extended Campuses Center departments. The addition connects to the existing building on all three levels. NAU has ambitious campus-wide sustainability goals and this project contributes with a series of innovative strategies, including a south facing gallery space providing natural daylight and connectivity between the three floors. A solar wall, with a dark, perforated metal skin, heats the cavity behind the metal cladding and draws the heated air up into the mechanical equipment penthouse as preheated ventilation air. Active chilled beams provide significant energy savings and much less noise than from supply air grilles.
